When Woody Guthrie died, he left behind over a thousand sets of complete lyrics written between 1939 and 1967. In 1992, his daughter Nora asked Billy Bragg to put them to music and Bragg asked Wilco to contribute as well. The results were put together on an album called Mermaid Avenue, named after the street on Coney Island where Guthrie lived. There are three volumes but I think the first is my favorite.
Enjoy!!!!
P.S. There is a documentary about the collaboration, but I haven't seen it yet. Have you??
